I came to this backwards, hearing the score before seeing the film, and I think that is the better order.
Glass writing to picture is more disciplined than Glass writing for the concert hall. The arpeggios still cycle, but the film gives them somewhere to go. The length of a shot decides the length of a phrase, so nothing runs on the way his early work does.
